Andy started work with Gosport Borough Council in 1977 as a Junior Clerk and left in 2001 having carried out a number of roles, the last being Head of Committee Services. This work involved managing the democratic processes in place at that time, corporate property and civic events. At the end of his career at Gosport Andy was also responsible for managing the campaign to save the last remaining military hospital in England, Haslar Hospital, from closure. This work resulted in a number of very high profile events, providing evidence to the Defence Select Committee and harnessing the support of all local authorities in the surrounding area.
Andy joined West Berkshire Council in July 2001 as Policy Manager in order to expand his experience across a wide range of areas and was promoted to Head of Policy and Communication (now Head of Strategic Support) in 2008. Andy is now responsible for a number of corporate functions such as Democratic and Electoral Services, Land Charges, Performance, Research and Consultation, Safer Communities, Public Relations, Graphics and Web Development, Emergency Planning and Policy and Scrutiny. Andy is a qualified Chartered Secretary and has a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
