This annual Open Day is a unique opportunity to see the racehorses in their training establishments throughout the Lambourn Valley – The Valley of the Racehorse.

Upwards of 10,000 visitors are expected to attend this annual charity event which provides visitors with a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at some of the country’s top racehorse training establishments and meet the trainers, staff and, of course, the horses. More than 25 racing yards are expected to open their doors to the public in the Valley of the Racehorse, so don’t miss your chance to see the stable stars of Lambourn.

Visits to the top class training establishments are just one element of this special charity event there will also be an opportunity to see the fantastic facilities at the Valley Equine Hospital and a range of demonstrations will be taking place throughout the day, including the Rockwood Dog Display and farrier displays.

The events field with its central arena will open at 1pm with a full programme of equine and country related shows, in addition to demonstrations of country skills.

Afternoons activities include pony rides for the children, a vast array of trade stands and food stalls at the central events area in Lambourn completes a great day out for all the family.

Car Parks are free and open at 7.30 a.m. Yards will open from 8.30am until 1 p.m. All money raised goes to Lambourn’s registered charity, The Lambourn Valley Housing Trust which works for the welfare of its stable staff, The Air Ambulance and other local needy causes.
    Visit for more information.

All the above will be available 8.30 a.m. until 1 p.m. and in some car parks there will be refreshments vans and free Racing Post newspapers available.
From 10 a.m. the large tradestand area in the middle of Lambourn will be open, with some 70 tradestands and food and drink facilities..
From 1p.m. in the area of the tradestands many action packed events will take place and in some the top jockeys will be thrilling the crowds with their expertise. There will be fun and laughter aplenty.

In addition to all the activities, there will be the Open Day Raffle with some amazing prizes and also the Silent Auction where you can bid for some incredible experiences.

You are welcome to bring your dog provided it is kept on a lead. The RSPCA advises that animals are never left inside cars.

Disabled Access - Horses don't like steps either and so most of the racing yards are on level ground with tarmac or concrete walkways. The horses are generally in their stables and will often have their head out of the door, for a wheelchair user it may be difficult to view the horses who are tucked away in a far corner of the stable. However the stables are all attended and you are encouraged to ask for assistance from one of the stable lads. When you arrive at the stable please indicate that you are disabled or have a disabled passenger. Wherever safely possible you will be allowed to park close to the buildings and drop a disabled passenger.

The afternoon entertainment is on a grass field which may prove challenging to wheelchair users without attendants. Parking for vehicles with disabled drivers and passengers is directly next to the field.

Special toilets for disabled visitors have been hired and are available at key locations. Please ask any of the marshals. They are also marked in the Open Day programme

Some of the yards are not within the village boundary. This includes Nicky Henderson at Seven Barrows and Barry Hills / William Muir on the road to Wantage. There is no public transport to these yards and the best way to see them is by taking your car there. Walking is not recommended since the main road is very busy on the Open Day and can be hazardous for pedestrians.

Directions will be signed by the RAC from after leaving the M4 Junction 14, on the Wantage road and from other approach routes
