Saturday 4th August
18:30 – 20:00 Ricky and the Gamblers
Ricky and the Gamblers, one of Newbury's best loved bands from the 1960s, are reuniting to celebrate 50 years since they signed their first record deal and won a contract to have their music played on the pirate radio station Radio Caroline. Sighed to one of the big labels in the 1960s, Major Minor Records, the Gamblers played their first gig in Purley-on-Thames in September 1962. The line-up was 12 year old Vocalist Ricky Hicks, his 14 year old brother Dave on lead guitar with their cousin Pete Fry on rhythm guitar (later bass) and school friend. Playing Soul classics from the past 50 years you certainly won’t be able to keep your feet still.
20:30 – 22:00 The Kopycat Killers
The Kopycat Killers were born when frontman Stuart Rook was told for the 200th time at one of his own gigs that he 'sounds just like that bloke out of The Killers' and thought, "well why not?!". Since then Stuart, along with Rob, Dickon, Ben and Ash who make up the rest of 'The Kopycat Killers', have brought their sound to venues that 'The Killers' themselves have played such as Bush Hall, London Scala and even Wembley Arena! The attention to detail is second to none - featuring authentic specially prepared studio sequencer tracks to ape 'The Killers' own, backing musicians, stage wear, instruments, set choice and stage decoration (including the Killers own famous 'K' keyboard stand) are all present and correct. The 'Kopycat Killers' are huge fans and take sounding and looking like the real thing very seriously indeed. Come and see for yourself!
Sunday 5th August14:30 – 15:15 Colorado River
Colorado River is a country and blues duo based in Newbury, and it is formed by K.W. Lingus and Milena Castino. The duo was officially formed in 2018 after jamming together in local pubs and due to one common passion: country music. K.W. Lingus is the guitarist and singer & songwriter for the project and he is also the frontman for a reputable local band, the No Good Sons. K.W. Lingus’ musical influence comes from southern country rock and, with a long musical career in Newbury, he has headlined venues such as The Big Red, in London, and the Corn Exchange, in Newbury. Milena Castino is the lead singer and she is a Hogan’s Academy student. Her influences come from jazz and bossa nova, which she brings from her home country Brazil, and she has performed at events in the Newbury Racecourse and festivals. She is also a song writer so now they are planning the next step, which is to write their own songs for the duet. Their musical influence together ranges from Johnny Cash to The Rolling Stones, Robert Johnson to Cadillac Three. You can find Colorado River playing every Thursday in local pubs in Newbury. They have a wide repertoire of acoustic covers, always adding their country & blues twist to the songs. This summer they have a busy schedule playing in festivals all over Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.
